Grand Coulee Dam's Third Powerplant - Grand Coulee Dam's Third Powerplant saw a monumental lift on October 26, 2009 when one of the 600-megawatt generators was taken out of service for repairs. Savage Rapids Dam Removal
A River Runs Through It: The Removal of Savage Rapids Dam - On October 9, 2009, the last remaining radial gates at Savage Rapids Dam were closed, returning the Rogue River to its historic stream channel for the first time since 1921 and allowing salmon and trout the opportunity to migrate freely to and from the Pacific Ocean. A pumping plant was built downstream of the dam site to meet irrigation needs in the area. The total project cost was $39.3 million. News Release, Video

Bureau of Reclamation Announces $5.27 Million in Recovery Act Funds for Procuring Key Portions of the Navajo Nation Municipal Pipeline - The Bureau of Reclamation, has awarded a modification, to an existing contract, totaling $5.27 million to the Navajo Nation under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for purchasing pipeline and related fittings for constructing key portions of the Navajo Nation Municipal Pipeline (NNMP). The ARRA funds will be used by tribal contractors for key components of the construction of 21 miles (out of a total project of 29 miles) of the pipeline from Farmington to Shiprock and allow for an earlier delivery of water to the Navajo Nation. Interior Requests Comments on Revised Departmental Strategic Plan - The Department of the Interior is asking for public comment on the revision of its Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2010-2015. A Federal Register notice requesting comments was published and provides for a 60-day comment period ending November 10, 2009. “This strategic plan will serve as our road map by establishing direction, priorities and goals for Interior,” said Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. “It will also include performance measures that will gauge how well we progressing toward the results we have committed ourselves to achieve.” News Release, Strategic Plan
